Instead of lumping a day’s worth of debit card and A.T.M. transactions together and then processing the highest amounts first — a practice that has caused large numbers of consumers to overdraw more quickly and pay more fees — it will credit the transactions chronologically. Chase also plans to allow customers to opt out of overdraft coverage [and] will cap the number of overdraft fees it charges a day to three. It will stop charging fees when accounts are overdrawn by less than $5.
If this really happens it’s a huge win for consumers. I can’t believe it’s legal to chronologically reorder transactions under any circumstances. Chase burned me earlier this month and I had a great argument with a customer service rep about who it was really benefitting. They wound up refunding half my fees but the whole thing was still a total scam. The Times had a longer article a couple weeks ago that summarizes the situation well.

WIN. Also, after multiple calls to BoA earlier in the year, you can already also opt out of their overdraft coverage, too. They just don’t tell you that until you get really pissed.

This quote doesn’t even make sense. Here is a guy who makes christian based media for children, and is telling people not to do it. Proves a perfect point that evangelists like this guy have no fucking idea what they’re even saying.

SHIT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. Although it does, because it’s a quote from a Christian given to other Christians, and that just takes any logic out of the equation altogether. It’s kind of the unofficial credo of all christians to accept, “Do as I say, not as I do” as truth.

As Vischer had an about-face in the wake of the demise of his grand endeavor to create a “Christian Disney”, this “quote” is cast in retrospect. Yes, he’s advocating against the very career trajectory he embarked upon in his younger years.

Here is another quote from Vischer (as I do not have the time available to research this matter further, which, unfortunately, is a story for many stillborn posts in my thought laden mind) on his “questioning the authenticity of his faith tradition” (my source is Skye Jethani’s wonderful The Divine Commodity):

Chris Good actually makes an interesting argument as to why, despite the major advertiser pull from his show (this says 36, I’ve also read 46), Glenn Beck is still on the air.

“Beck inhabits the province of Eminem and Howard Stern—guys who say offensive stuff sometimes and get criticized for it. People respect them for that, on some level, and are entertained by it on others. The more criticism that comes their way, the stronger they get—it reinforces their personnae. Publicly denouncing Howard Stern for being offensive has no effect, because that’s who he is, and everyone knows it.”

This is perhaps true, and I don’t think he’s making an excuse for the guy; however, I find this sort of avenue, a Political Talk News Show on the highest-rated cable news network, a bit disturbing. Especially since this notion of why he’s popular, being able to spout off his opinion, is fueling the crazies who repeatedly negate valuable dialog on the issues.

A wildfire in Santa Barbara, California last month helped forge some unlikely bonds. Rescued from the Jesusita Fire, a 3-week old bobcat kitten and 3 day old fawn became fast friends. The animal rescue in California brought predator and prey together. But these babies simply took comfort in each other’s company, snuggling under a desk at a dispatch office for hours.
